Torture the fire wrapped in your mantle,
Fog closes in and engulfs every angle,
The moon motions for the assignment of slaughter,
Cut off their limbs as you poison their waters
Eyes like snakes,
Shift in place,
Stir the grave,
Reconcile fate,
Holy halls,
Hold no shame,
Waves of three,
Suffocating me
Denial chains a tainted mass from the dirt,
Tortured and broken for their lives on this earth,
Allow the eclectic selection of souls,
Dare not you speak, raise a voice, or impose
Eyes like snakes,
Shift in place,
Stir the grave,
Reconcile fate,
Holy halls,
Hold no shame,
Waves of three,
Suffocating me
Condemn them to their fate
Your apathy is a work of art,
Pray for a flood safe in your arc
Lethargic voices crowd the congregation,
As if they needed more affirmation
These crimes still remain a tradition,
No peace at the altar of God,
Assaulted by the father within,
Dance like a coven around all their sins,
If he can face his fucking reflection,
Why can't you just face the truth?
Over and over the cycle continues,
Solely because you ignore this abuse
Moonlight seeps through the eternal branches,
Avert their gaze,
The setting sun now finally withdrawn,
Leave this place,
Arrogant man who used to stand so tall,
Reconcile fate,
Abandoned and now theirs to enthrall,
Take it all
Take it all away

Lyrics by Anthony Messina and Jesse Benge
Wonderful dramatic opening, the voice of a black woman in all her honesty, vulnerability and openess. And then one of the fiercest tracks of Zulu, total hardcore: 'Now they are through with me', full of twists and turns, and suddenly ending in a kind of soul-track, brilliant! This is 21st century music at it's best. The end lecture is dramatic and disturbing, spoken again by a black woman. Makes you think. Hesperus
