Idle thought in a pit of fire,
What goods it for?
Everything always seemed so pointless,
Fade away, I can't feel love anymore
I've grown numb,
To the breath of the world,
Recoil from sunlight,
Retreated to the sound,
I heard the voices,
Echoing off the walls,
Under the moon,
At night the serpent calls
When winter comes, dusk ever persistent,
Preserve the fate of our corroding existence,
That shade steps closer to me every year,
Watching me sleep,
Whispering in my ears
You just want to die,
Leave this life far behind,
Bind your arms to the bark,
Until the end of time
So I'll lament in a nocturne,
All of my dreams disjointed,
I once had hope for this world,
But its left me disappointed
This harbinger of cascading darkness,
Is eternally anointed,
It's all so fucking pointless
We steep too many skulls,
Within the river styx,
I feel the serpent's breath,
Linger on the back of my neck
We've steeped too many skulls,
Disregard consequence,
The world that we were promised,
Has been forsaken

Lyrics by Jesse Benge and Anthony Messina
Wonderful dramatic opening, the voice of a black woman in all her honesty, vulnerability and openess. And then one of the fiercest tracks of Zulu, total hardcore: 'Now they are through with me', full of twists and turns, and suddenly ending in a kind of soul-track, brilliant! This is 21st century music at it's best. The end lecture is dramatic and disturbing, spoken again by a black woman. Makes you think. Hesperus
